New Directions for retranslations research: Lessons Learned from the archaeology of retranslations in the finnish literary system

Abstract: Neste artigo, discutimos a fase arqueológica de nossa pesquisa acerca da retradução no sistema literário finlandês. “…Xu Jun (2014) attributed the constant emergence of "retranslations" to "some non-literary factors are at work, especially driven by economic interests." In this regard, Western Koskinen and Paloposki (2003) gave a relatively pertinent evaluation-"The force behind the decision to retranslate is probably rather cultural than financial, but one reward for retranslation is favorable publicity for the publisher, and this, no doubt, is not bad for the business". “…Therefore, this paper delves into a detailed descriptive and explanatory analysis asking who sings the nation-state 2 in Uriel Heyd's narrative on the father of modern sociology in Turkey and one of the principal theorizers on Turkish nationalism, Ziya Gökalp, as well as the many songs of representations in the 1979, 1980, 2001, 2002, and 2010, respectively. This data set also provides empirical evidence for questioning aging of language as raison d'être of retranslation, which the study by Koskinen and Paloposki (2019) calls "self-fulfilling prophesy 1 The historical construction of a theory of translation from the 'German' roots of comparative literature and the totalitarian nature of such theorizing require specific research into how complexity thinking is reflected in systemic approaches to translation studies. See Sayın 2020.…”

“…Though recent research does not necessarily share Berman's method of analysis and answer to his call for translation criticism, the literature is conspicuously inattentive to the major paradigms of translation studies. Leaving the unilinear positioning of time, space, and hence language in Berman's retranslation hypothesis based on German idealism to another study, 1 the present one attempts to fill a gap in retranslation research that Kaisa Koskinen and Outi Paloposki (2019) underscore by "macro level approaches" (23). For this purpose, a 'multi-pronged approach' is surely necessary; however, as this study indicates, it is already available.…”
