New Diketopiperazines from the SpongeDysidea chlorea

Abstract: Twelve new polychlorinated diketopiperazines (7-18), along with six known ones (1-6) and a known sterol (19), were isolated from the sponge Dysidea chlorea, collected from Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. The structures of dysamides I-T (7-18) were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and one (8) was confirmed by chemical conversion. The stereochemistry of the dysamides is discussed.

“…Diketopiperazines (DKPs), the smallest cyclic peptides, have been isolated from marine microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and actinomycete) [1417] or the microorganisms associated with sponge [1820]. As cyclic peptide derivatives, DKPs have been considered as cell-cell signalling compounds.…”

“…Twelve polychlorinated DKPs, dysamides I -T (100 -111, resp. ), were obtained from D. chlorea from Yap, Micronesia [82]. Of greater interest is the unusual S-containing diketopiperazine 112 from the marine sponge Tedania ignis [83].…”

Neither of these routes provides a satisfactory explanation to the novel structure of botryllazine B [6].…”
