New Device for Raman Difference Spectroscopy with Multichannel and Scanning Multichannel Detection

Abstract: We report on a specially designed setup which combines the advantages of Raman difference spectroscopy with the multiplex advantages of multichannel detection. The new device and the principle of operation are described in detail. Several examples of Raman difference spectra are shown to demonstrate the performance of the setup. Static as well as scanning multichannel techniques were applied to test the distinct capabilities of the system. Both methods are discussed with special emphasis on the reliability and… Show more

“…Altogether, a CCD camera is the perfect multichannel detector for Raman spectroscopy. Deckert et al suggested a single-beam layout for a RDS device applying a CCD camera . However, they did not fully consider the new 2D array capabilities of this versatile detector because their setup was lacking the important improvement of an imaging (single-stage) spectrograph.…”

“…Random drifts of the apparatus into the opposite side would result in the observation of too small shifts. One can clearly recognize the ambiguities introduced by serial, nonsimultaneous detection of Raman signals, which are intended to be used for RDS calculations. Hence, the presented RDS setup using a CCD detector and simultaneous detection of the two signals leads to a much improved performance compared to formerly reported RDS devices.…”

“…4 A rotating, divided cell has been used to enable beams from two different samples to be recorded alternately on a charge-coupled device (CCD) detector. 5 In both of these experiments the technique was used for Raman difference spectroscopy. The simultaneous recording of different Raman spectra on to a CCD detector was advanced when it was demonstrated that multiple spectra could be recorded at different positions on a two-dimensional CCD.…”
