Aims: Agroecological infrastructures are central to the preservation of arthropod populations and ecosystem services associated. There is little data on the population dynamics of New Caledonian citrus orchards. Thus, this study focuses on the response of arthropods to four management methods in the orchard: conventional management, inter-row vegetated, row mulching and edge windbreaks. Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted in the village of La Foa in New Caledonia. It took place over three months, from the end of February to the end of May 2022. Methodology: To collect the greatest possible diversity of insects, four complementary trapping methods were used: pitfall traps, yellow plates, Malaise traps and sweeping nets. Once collected, the trapped insects are then sorted and identified. The sorting is done with a binocular magnifying glass. Insects are identified using specific determination keys, documentation, or with the help of the Reference Collection of Terrestrial Invertebrates of New Caledonia - Xavier Montrouzier (CXMNC). When identification is not immediately possible, a morphotype number is assigned. For each species and morphospecies, a photograph is taken. Alpha and beta diversity was studied using rarefactions, Shannon index and Generalized Linear Models. Results: A positive effect of agroecological infrastructures on insects’ abundance and diversity was recorded. In contrast, low arthropod abundances and diversities were presented in the orchard under conventional management (P < 0.001). Mulching management was the parameter showing the much higher insects’ abundance. Moreover, populations dynamics were generally correlated with the related infrastructures. Thus, windbreaks acted as ecological corridors and the inter-row vegetation as refuge habitats for beneficial insects. Conclusion: These results demonstrate the damage of conventional agriculture on arthropod diversity in New Caledonian orchards. They also show that agroecological infrastructures can bring back insect biodiversity, especially with the mulching management.

A microemulsion is a stable, homogeneous pesticide formulation, based on an aqueous solvent, which is considered as a suitable alternative to emulsion formulations. In this study, microemulsion formulations of deltamethrin insecticide were designed to control Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae), one of the important pests of many crops and ornamental plants. The solvent was selected based on the higher solubility of deltamethrin, and the appropriate surfactants were selected based on the quality of microemulsion formation. Pseudo‐ternary phase diagrams were constructed by the water titration method. The microemulsion systems were prepared using mixtures composed of deltamethrin, surfactants including Kenon 10 + SDS, Tensiofix 8427 + SDS and Tensiofix 8427 + SLS, and cosurfactant (1‐butanol). The Physico‐chemical properties of the obtained microemulsions were also evaluated. The appearance of microemulsion systems was transparent, and the droplet size of all samples was less than 20 nm. The formulations showed thermodynamic stability and low viscosity. All four microemulsion formulations had high insecticidal activity against A. gossypii, compared with an aqueous solution of pure deltamethrin. In this study, an environment‐friendly microemulsion system was designed to improve the efficacy of deltamethrin for controlling populations of A. gossypii. However, further research could be performed to assess the behaviour and ultimate fate in the environment prior to commercialization.

AimInvasions of non‐native insects can have substantial impacts on agriculture, forestry, human health and biodiversity with considerable economic and environmental consequences. To understand the causes of these invasions, it is important to quantify the relative influence of principal drivers such as international imports and climatic effects.LocationNorth America, Chile, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.Time Period1881–2020.MethodsTo evaluate the relative contributions of various factors in explaining global variation in numbers of non‐native insect establishments in different world regions, we conducted two multivariate regression analyses to quantify temporal changes in family‐level composition and native ranges of established non‐native species in several world regions.ResultsThere were temporal changes in the family‐level composition of non‐native species assemblages. Prior to 1900, invasions were dominated by scale insects, subsequently shifting to a more diverse set of species, except in North America, which had relatively small compositional change over time compared to other regions. Spatial and temporal variation in the composition of established species was associated with differences in the origin of imports and climatic factors, each explaining 26.3% and 27.4% of the total variation, respectively. The analysis of native ranges of non‐native species indicated that there was no consistent temporal variation across all regions. Established species in New Zealand were predominantly native to Australasia and species in North America and Chile were mainly from Europe. Non‐native species in Europe mainly originated from the Nearctic region while those in Japan and Australia generally originated from multiple regions. Climatic factors in the destination regions had a primary effect (66.3%) on variation in the native range of established species, although imports also had substantial effects (45.4%).Main ConclusionsGeographical variation in climate and imports act together as drivers of establishment success for non‐native insects in all six regions.
