Abstract: We present the results of a diachronic survey of the Katsaronio plain in the Karystia, southern Euboea, Greece. The project was organised under the aegis of the Norwegian Institute at Athens with a permit from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture under the official name of the Norwegian Archaeological Survey in the Karystia. “…The location at the southern end of the Euboean Gulf, with the important Mycenaean centers of Thorikos, Brauron, and Marathon on the opposite coast, makes this all the more puzzling. It is possible that Mycenaean Karystos simply has not been found but this seems unlikely since the region has been subject to numerous campaigns of intensive and extensive archaeological survey since the 1980s (Keller 1985;Tankosić and Chidiroglou 2010;Cullen et al 2013;Tankosić et al, forthcoming). Even if such a site exists but has not been found, it would need to be part of a wider regional system, of which we have no trace.…”

“…We designed methods around the principles of recording precision, simplicity, and flexibility. To achieve this, we used a modified version of the recording system designed for the archaeological project at the Neolithic site of Paliambela in Pieria, northern Greece, conducted by the Aristotle Univer- 19 Due to the methodological limitations of NASK (Tankosić et al 2021), we cannot provide surface artefact densities for Gourimadi. The observation here is based on personal experience with the Gourimadi survey and subsequent visits that preceded the start of the excavation.…”

“…The Prehistoric Stones of Greece online database inventories 163 survey projects (Elefanti et al 2015). Certain regions, such as Boeotia, southern Euboea, and eastern Crete, have now seen multiple generations of projects and widespread 29 intensive coverage (Bintliff et al 2007;Spencer and Bevan 2018;Tankosić et al 2021).…”
