In this paper we present the Reproducible Research Publication Workflow (RRPW) as an example of how generic canonical workflows can be applied to a specific context. The RRPW includes essential steps between submission and final publication of the manuscript and the research artefacts (i.e., data, code, etc.) that underlie the scholarly claims in the manuscript. A key aspect of the RRPW is the inclusion of artefact review and metadata creation as part of the publication workflow. The paper discusses a formalized technical structure around a set of canonical steps which helps codify and standardize the process for researchers, curators, and publishers. The proposed application of canonical workflows can help achieve the goals of improved transparency and reproducibility, increase FAIR compliance of all research artefacts at all steps, and facilitate better exchange of annotated and machine-readable metadata.

Repositories increasingly accept research outputs and associated artifacts that underlie reported findings, leading to potential changes in the demand for data curation and repository services. This paper describes a curation tool that responds to this challenge by economizing and optimizing curation efforts. The curation tool is implemented at Yale University's Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) as YARD. By standardizing the curation workflow, YARD helps create high quality data packages that are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) and promotes research transparency by connecting the activities of researchers, curators, and publishers through a single pipeline.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to consider personal digital archiving (PDA) from an academic perspective. Although elements of research data management and personal information management are relevant, it is unclear what is available on university websites supporting PDA. The following question guided the research: where is “PDA” content housed in the top-level .edu domain and what is the format and nature of the content made available? Design/methodology/approach This descriptive study analyzed Google hits yielded by searching “PDA” within the .edu domain. Results were analyzed to determine where content was housed and its format and nature. Placement in the domain, delivery methods, topics, and the nature of the most highly ranking Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) were analyzed. Findings In the academy, PDA is not exclusively of interest in libraries; not quite half of the .edu URLs (45 percent) pointed to a library site. Scholarly papers were the most returned content, followed by blogs and conferences information. Closer analysis of the top 20 URLs showed that libraries are popular and papers, and blogs continue to be dominant. Research limitations/implications The results suggest good PDA practices and recommendations are evolving. Academic librarians should examine these practices, refine them, and make them available and discoverable on the web. Originality/value This is the first paper, to the knowledge, to consider PDA content from the perspective of universities and university libraries.
