New Clay-Supported Chiral Rhodium Complexes: Interlayer Modification with Structural Tuning Guests and Asymmetric Hydrogenation

Abstract: The novel host-guest catalysts, in which a chiral rhodium complex was intercalated into structural tuning guests modified smectites, were synthesized, and drastic change in catalysis was observed depending on the orientation of guest molecules.

“…Host guest asymmetric hydrogenation of (1R)-(+)-pinene was achieved (Scheme 24) using a new inorganic-layered host catalyst called multiple modified smectite (MMS), which is composed of smectite intercalated with chiral rhodium and bulky alkylammonium complexes [73]. The hydrogenation of (1R)-(+)--pinene yielded (1R)-(+)-endo and exo-pinane using MMS, lithium taeniorite (LiTN), synthetic sodium hectorite (NaHT) and the smectiteintercalated catalyst (4S,5S)-4,5-bis(diphenilphosphinomethyl)-2,2dimethyldioxolane with rhodium (Rh-DIOP + ), affording high selectivities (50-92%), as shown in Table 16.…”
