“…Unfortunately the distance to NGC 300 is rather uncertain at the present time; distance moduli obtained by different authors differ quite significantly. Based on an analysis of a variety of distance indicators, van den Bergh (1992) found a distance modulus of 26.0 mag, while Freedman et al (1992) obtained a value of 26.66 mag, using BV RI CCD observations of Cepheids in this galaxy. If we adopt the latter value, our brightness cutoff corresponds to an absolute magnitude of M v = −4.7 mag.…”
