New Capabilities of the FLUKA Multi-Purpose Code

Abstract: FLUKA is a general purpose Monte Carlo code able to describe the transport and interaction of any particle and nucleus type in complex geometries over an energy range extending from thermal neutrons to ultrarelativistic hadron collisions. It has many different applications in accelerator design, detector studies, dosimetry, radiation protection, medical physics, and space research. In 2019, CERN and INFN, as FLUKA copyright holders, together decided to end their formal collaboration framework, allowing them he… Show more

“…Two single-bunch beams are produced and accelerated to be injected at 5 Hz into the collider ring. Detailed studies to optimise the design of the interaction region to reduce BIB on detector to sustainable levels were performed by the MAP collaboration with the MARS15 Monte Carlo software [54] and more recently with FLUKA [55,56]. The background particle fluxes in the detector can be reduced by a substantial factor by two conical shaped shielding nozzles, described in Section 2.1.…”

“…MC simulations are performed using the FLUKA code [46,47] and FLAIR graphical interface [48]. The input file of the FLUKA simulation consists of a variable number of commands, each consisting of one or more lines, also called cards.…”
