Comparative studies of the kinetics and selectivity of the Suzuki and Heck reactions, the modified tests on homogeneity-heterogeneity and an implementation of the solid-phase variant of the Suzuki reaction indicate a substantial contribution of the heterogeneous mechanism to the Suzuki reaction catalysis which is in contrast to the Heck reaction. The contributions of molecular complexes, colloidal Pd and the larger-sized particles to Suzuki catalysis depend on the nature of the catalyst precursor, the solvent and the temperature of the reaction. It has been established that these contributions change significantly during the reaction as well.

Das Mahlmaterial ist der Katalysator.I nd iesem Beitrag stellen wir eine palladiumkatalysierte Reaktion in der Kugelmühle vor,b ei der weder Katalysatorpulver,L iganden, noch Lçsungsmittel verwendet werden. Dieses einfache und nachhaltige Konzept zeigen wir am Beispiel der Suzuki-Polymerisation von 4-Brom-bzw.4-Iodphenylboronsäure zu Poly-(para-phenylen). Überdies beobachten wir einen der hçchsten bisher publizierten Polymerisationsgrade (199).Die Knüpfung von C-C-Bindungen ist ein wichtiges Werkzeug der Organik [1,2] und Polymerchemie. [3][4][5] Zahlreiche Kreuzkupplungsreaktionen wie die Negishi-, [6,7] Mizoroki-Heck-, [8,9] Sonogashira-, [10] und Suzuki-Kupplung [5,11] wurden über die letzten Jahre etabliert. In all diesen Reaktionen werden Palladiumverbindungen als Katalysatoren bençtigt und überwiegend als Komplexe wie Te trakis(triphenylphosphin)palladium(0) eingebracht. [1] Die katalytischen Reaktionen werden in aller Regel homogen durchgeführt, obgleich es auch Diskussionen und Studien zu heterogenen Analoga gibt. [12][13][14] In jüngster Vergangenheit wurden zudem einige der zuvor erwähnten Reaktionen lçsungsmittelfrei in Kugelmühlen durchgeführt. [15][16][17][18][19] Diese mechanochemischen Reaktionen erwiesen sich als vorteilhaft, da sie deutlich schneller verliefen, weniger Energie verbrauchten, die lçsungsmittelfreie Reaktionsumgebung signifikant zur Abfallreduktion beitrug und jegliche Lçslichkeitsprobleme umgangen werden konnten.
