Abstract: Four new Dactylogyrus species are described and two redescribed from cyprinids of the River Tigris, Iraq. These are as follows: Dactylogyrus barbioides n. sp. from Barbus grypus; D. orbus n. sp. from Barbus lacerta; D. barbuli n. sp. from Barbus barbulus; D. macrostomi n. sp. from Cyprinion macrostomi; D. pavlovskyi Bychowsky, 1949 from Barbus grypus and Barbus sharpeyi; and D. inutilis Bychowsky, 1949 from Barbus xanthopterus. “…The results presented here and data reported in other papers (Jalali & Moln~ir, 1990a,b;Gussev et al, 1993) show that the monogenean fauna of fishes in the three Iranian zoogeographical regions is different. Fish collected from the River Sefid in the Ponto-Caspian Region were parasitized by typical Palaearctic species common in Europe and northern Asia.…”

“…The morphological characteristics of our specimens of D. pavlovskyi show good agreement with specimens of this species redescribed by Gussev et al (1993) from B. grypus and B. sharpeyi. In a well-flattened specimen, however, some morphological features were found to have a close resemblance to D. auriculatus (Nordmann, 1832).…”

“…In the laboratory, the gill arches from both sides were separated, kept moist in Petri dish examined under dissecting microscope for counting Dactylogyrus on each gill lamella, which were stained by aqueous neutral red, and permanent slides were prepared with glycerol-gelatin (Gussev, 1993). Photos were taken by Sony…”
