New advances in microchip fabrication for electrochromatography

Abstract: There is a great demand in separation technologies for faster and more effective analysis processes. Miniaturization is a suitable technique for satisfying this demand as reduction in size gives increased separation speed with higher efficiency. CEC is an electric-field-mediated separation technique where the liquid flow is generated by the electric field itself. The main advantage of using electric field over pressure for flow generation is the flat flow profile of the EOF; thus, CEC is one of the best candid… Show more

“…On the other hand, MEKC on microchips has fully met the expectations anticipated in the previous review. Thus, microfluidic devices have received much attention over the last four years, and a number of systems that can perform analytical procedures involving chemical reactions, separation, and detection on a single microchip have been developed [20,21]. Although MEKC can be implemented on chip devices, they have been primarily designed for CZE, so they are not included in this review either.…”

“…Lab-on-a-chip devices have the potential to revolutionize chemical and biological analysis procedures [1][2][3]. The CE technique is commonly employed to separate ions in a sample since it has a low sample consumption and a good detection resolution [4,5].…”

“…18,19,42,99,100 The EOF, as a stateof-the-art approach widely applied in miniaturized systems for fluid delivery, offers many advantageous features. The EOF can be induced by applying an external electric field parallel to a surface with a net surface charge density to drive the bulk fluid.…”
