New advances in animal transgenic technology

Abstract: Animal transgenic technology is one of the fastest growing biotechnology in the 21st century. It is used to integrate foreign genes into the animal genome by genetic engineering technology so that foreign genes can be expressed and inherited to the offspring. The transgenic efficiency and precise control of gene expression are the key limiting factors on preparation of transgenic animals. A variety of transgenic techniques are available, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages and still needs fu… Show more

“…The first tetracycline (tet)-controlled transcriptional activation system was designed nearly a decade ago to control transgene expression temporally. The activation or suppression of a variety of genes in vivo has provided invaluable insights into the function and regulation of these genes in various tissues and cells (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6). The original tet-controlled transcriptional activator (tTA) is a transcriptional regulator with tight control of target gene expression and a broad range of inducibility (7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12)(13).…”

“…A nebulizer (1) is connected to a doxycycline reservoir (3) by tubing(2). The doxycycline reservoir is connected (4) to a microisolator chamber(5). The mouse is placed inside a 50-ml Falcon tube (REF 352070; BD Falcon, Franklin Lakes, NJ), with its snout snugly positioned through a 1-cm aperture in the tube (6).…”

“…With the development of medical and biological science, the minipigs have subsequently gained regulatory acceptance in pharmacology, toxicity and basic researches [ 4 ]. Recent evidence suggests a increasing demand of high-quality minipigs, which can reduce the interference of some inapparent pathogens [ 15 ]. However, ensuring an adequate supply of high-quality minipigs may become a main challenge.…”

“…The number and density are gradually decreasing. If every suitable habitat patch were seen as an isolated island which is suitable for the survival of giant panda, then this law fits island species biology diffusion law [10]. Hence, migration and dispersal can increase the possibility of the permanence of giant panda in the patchy environment.…”
