Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio as Novel Markers for Diagnosis of Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is a common otologic disease characterized by a loss of hearing greater than 30 dB in three consecutive frequencies which occurs in less than 72 hours. Objective: To investigate the role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) on sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). Search strategy: A PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, OVID, EMBASE and Google Scholar search (date last searched April 2016) without any time, language … Show more

“…From the results of this study, there was a difference between NLR in cases and controls (p<0.05). According to [12] the mean NLR in cases was significantly higher than in controls (p<0.05). According to [1] neutrophils are a thrombogenic marker, and a risk factor for stroke and myocardial infarction.…”

“…In our study, NLR was significantly higher than in the control group and it is strong evidence that inflammation plays a role in the etiology of the disease. In the study byBahrami et al, the strong relationship between the emergence of SSHL and NLR in the meta-analysis was determined [19]. Therefore, this parameter is related to the emergence of the disease and it is important in a bad response to the treatment.…”
