“…Elevated NLR and/or PLR levels were shown to be related with the risks for many diseases or disease outcome. For example, elevated NLR and PLR were shown to associate with DM, complications of DM, prevalence, severity, and prognosis of CAD, severity of lower extremity peripheral artery disease, different types of cancer and cancer prognosis, and also inflammatory disease such as IBD, rheumatoid arthritis . Our results suggest for the first time that MTHFR 677 variants are associated with elevated NLR level, and systemic inflammation is possible pathogenesis for diseases associated with C677T MTHFR polymorphism.…”

“…We observed that the PLR decreased with more severe periodontitis and with worsening glycaemic status. A small‐scale clinical study in Turkey reported that the PLR was significantly decreased in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance and newly diagnosed diabetes, but increased in those previously diagnosed with diabetes (Mertoglu & Gunay, ). However, a subgroup analysis of our study population revealed no significant differences in the PLR between individuals newly diagnosed and previously diagnosed with diabetes ( p = .234) (data not shown).…”

“…The neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have recently received attention as novel biomarkers of systemic inflammation. Previous studies have shown that altered levels of these biomarkers are associated with type 2 diabetes (Guo et al., ; Mertoglu & Gunay, ). However, their association with periodontitis has never been reported.…”

“…Idil Soylu et al conducted a study and showed that the PLR rate was positively correlated with carotid arterial stenosis ( r = 0.250, p = 0.002) (İdil Soylu et al, ). Mertoğlu et al showed that the mean NLR values were statistically higher in patients with pre‐diabetes (1.60 ± 0.85) and those who were diagnosed newly (1.58 ± 0.78) and in patients with diabetes (2.07 ± 0.95) when compared to the normal group (1.37 ± 0.69); and the mean PLR value was higher in the diabetic group (122.45 ± 37.43) (Mertoglu & Gunay, ). We determined in our study that the median NLR level was above 1.73, and median PLR level was above 112.4 ( p > 0.999, p = 0.100) when compared to control group; the mean NLR and PLR levels were significantly higher in the mild‐moderate ED and severe ED groups compared with the control group (1.32 ± 0.29, p < 0.001; 88.6 ± 18.71, p < 0.001).…”
