Neutralization Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) using NaOH at PT. Jorong Barutama Grestone, Tanah Laut, South Borneo

Abstract: Acid mine drainage (AMD)  is mine water with a low pH derived from the oxidation of pyrite containing sulfide with water and air to produce sulfide acid (H2SO4) containing free sulfate. Acid mine drainage treatment carried out at PT Jorong Barutama Greystone Tanah Laut uses limestone at a cost of Rp.220. - per cubic meter of water. This study was conducted to determine the use of technical NaOH for changes in mine acid quality (pH. Fe and Mn). The method carried out by active handling is by adding technical Na… Show more

“…The material used is synthetic acid mine drainage which is made by dissolving FeSO4•7H2O and MnSO4•H2O with the charge of each adsorbate metal is Fe 2+ , and Mn 2+ into1 litter of distilled water with a certain composition that resembles acid mine drainage with concentrations of Fe 41.97 mg/L, Mn 21.75 mg/L, and pH 4 [7,8]. The natural zeolite (mordenite type) used in this research was obtained from Klaten, Central Java.…”

“…Batch adsorption tests were conducted by mixing different quantities (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 g) of natural zeolites with 100 mL of synthetic solutions containing heavy metal ion concentrations of Fe 41.97 mg/L and Mn 21.75 mg/L [7]. The mixture was then stirred using a water bath shaker for 24 h. The final concentration of the heavy metal ions in the aqueous phase was then determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS).…”

“…From the remediation perspective, acidic soil pH increases heavy metal uptake by plants (Jaskulak et al 2020). In this environment, agronomic practices have been developed to increase remediation by adjusting pH and adding ameliorants like chelates, fertilizers, and composts (Iqbal and Baig 2016;Khodijah et al 2019;Utami et al 2020). For example, the phytoremediation of mercury-contaminated soils using Cyperus kyllingia increased maize production to 126% higher than on untreated land (Muddarisna and Siahaan 2014).…”

“…Air asam tambang (AAT) adalah limpasan air yang terbentuk dari proses oksidasi mineral sulfida yang terekspos dengan udara di atmosfer dan bercampur dengan air. Proses oksidasi sulfida ini menghasilkan cairan yang mengandung asam sulfat dan meningkatkan konsentrasi logam seperti besi, mangan, alumunium, kadmium dan lainnya [1].…”
