Neutral-current weak pion production off the nucleon in covariant chiral perturbation theory

Abstract: Neutral current single pion production induced by neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleon targets has been investigated in manifestly relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory with explicit ∆(1232) degrees of freedom up to O(p 3 ). At low energies, where chiral perturbation theory is applicable, the total cross sections for the different reaction channels exhibit a sizable non-resonant contribution, which is not present in event generators of broad use in neutrino oscillation and cross section experiments … Show more

“…In the low-energy region, the chiral perturbation theory can provide a systematic way of the analysis of the electroweak pion production reaction. The low-energy single-pion production reaction is studied in the rela-tivistic chiral perturbation theory [53,54] and the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory [55]. It would be very useful to test the partial wave amplitudes of reaction models, for example amplitudes of the DCC model, in comparison with those obtained from the chiral perturbation theory.…”

“…Since 1980s, it has been successful to explore the electroproduction and relevant processes using chiral perturbation theory (χPT) at low energies [16][17][18][19][20]. For the calculation of loop diagrams, there are several renormalization schemes, which are e.g.…”
