Neurovascular emergencies: imaging diagnosis and neurointerventional treatment

Abstract: Neurovascular emergencies, consisting of acute ischemic stroke, non-traumatic aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformation, dural arteriovenous fistula, and carotid- cavernous fistula, can have an acute presentation to the emergency department. Radiologists should have an understanding of these processes and their imaging findings in order to provide a prompt and accurate diagnosis. Neurointerventional radiology plays a critical role in providing additional diagnostic information and potentia… Show more

“…However, only a limited number of patients are clinically suitable for intravenous thrombolysis therapy. As studies on cerebrovascular diseases go deeper, the minimally invasive neurointervention therapy begins to play a role in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases (19)(20)(21). Neurointervention, a safe and highly efficient treatment, with fewer complications and less damage to the body functions, has started to be implemented in clinical practice (22).…”

“…e presence of HAVF accelerates the spread of tumors in the hepatic and throughout the body, which not only is a cause of tumor cell metastasis in the hepatic, but can also cause portal hypertension. HAPVF can cause or aggravate the symptoms of portal hypertension, such as gastrointestinal bleeding and ascites; severe life can be critical; HAVF can increase the chance of tumor cells spreading through the portal vein and hepatic vein to distant organs and can increase the false diagnosis of hepatic imaging positive rate [3]. In interventional therapy, lipiodol can cause pulmonary and systemic embolism through the shunt pathway, and hemodynamic changes due to shunt can directly affect the efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) intervention, so understanding the imaging diagnosis and intervention of HAVF Treatment has important implications [4].…”

“…Understanding these life-threatening neurovascular conditions clinically is essential for the ophthalmologist. [ 1 ] In this article, we have aimed to discuss and review the important neurovascular emergencies of the brain with regard to their clinical presentations, imaging modalities, diagnostic features, and medical and interventional management and outcome. We have searched the electronic databases, i.e., PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.…”
