Neuropattern: A new translational tool to detect and treat stress pathology I. Strategical consideration

Abstract: Translational research is most prominently represented by the search for biomarkers and preclinical research. Aside from generating such new measures and methodologies, translational research additionally refers to translation of integrated knowledge. This strategy involves synthesis, exchange, and dissemination of available knowledge, with the goal of improving health services and health care systems. For stress-related disorders, such as depression and anxiety disorders, this strategy meets numerous challeng… Show more

“…49,50 The NPQ-PSQ is part of a translational diagnostic tool (NeuroPattern) for stress-related disorders 49 and assesses maternal stressful/traumatic events during pregnancy, such as death or life-threatening illness of a close relative, divorce, lack of social support, relationship conflicts, high workload and financial constraints in a yes/no format. Participants of mothers reporting at least one stressful/traumatic life event during pregnancy were assigned to the prenatal stress group.…”

“…With the exploitation of physiological measures and molecular biomarkers, this will enable a better integration of animal models in pre-clinical research and enhance their potential to generate value from bench to bedside. Recently new approaches have emerged to integrate new parameters into this process, such as molecular changes in easy accessible peripheral samples (for example saliva) and electrocardiographic measurements for early detection and diagnosis of stress-related psychopathogenesis in humans and for verification of animal models of psychiatric disorders 197 .…”

“…The adaptive calibration model (ACM; Del Giudice et al, ) is to our knowledge the only theoretical framework to make predictions about within‐person taxonomic differences in PNS, SNS, and HPA axis activity [however, see Hellhammer, Hero, Gerhards, and Hellhammer () for further discussion of multi‐system coordination]. The ACM describes four prototypical patterns of coordination among these systems and specifies their implications for facilitation of negatively‐ and positively‐valenced responses to environmental threats and opportunities.…”
