Neuronal Ganglioside Increases Dependent on the Neuron‐Glia Interaction in Primary Culture

Abstract: Dissociated neuronal cells from rat embryonic hemispheres were cultivated on astroglial layers. The increase in ganglioside content of the cocultures was more rapid than that of neuronal cultures seeded on polylysine surfaces for the first 24 h, and the extent of the increase was greater 7 days after inoculation, probably because of interaction between the preformed astroglial layers and the neuronal cells in vitro.
