Abstract:The endocannabinoid system, which has been conserved evolutionarily from plants to vertebrates (Elphick & Egertová, 2005; Solymosi & Köfalvi, 2017), modulates synaptic transmission and consists of cannabinoid receptors type 1 (CB1R) and type 2 (CB2R), its endogenous ligands (anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol) and enzymes involved in its metabolism (Lambert & Fowler, 2005). CB1R is widely expressed in the central nervous system in vertebrates, both in neurons and glial cells (Facchinetti, Del Giudice,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
