Neuromodulation therapies and treatment-resistant depression

Abstract: BackgroundPatients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) who showed partial response to pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions need a trial of neuromodulation therapies (NTs).ObjectiveThis paper aims to review evidence-based data on the use of NTs in TRD.MethodUsing keywords and combined-word strategy, multiple computer searches of PubMed, Google Scholar, Quertle(R), and Medline were conducted for retrieving relevant articles published in English-language peer-reviewed journals (2000–2012). “…Co-occurring psychiatric and physical conditions further complicate the treatment of mood disorders 8–11. Standard pharmacological and psychotherapies used in patients with depression have resulted in the following outcomes: 30% of patients remit, another 30% show a partial response, and the rest are resistant to treatment 12,13. Overall, 30%–40% of patients with major depression would benefit from CAM 12,13.…”

Then, from equation (6 For further verification, the simulated E field distribution of mode 3 with a piece of muscle tissue (σ = 0.8 S/m, ε r = 56.8 [22]) of the size 24 cm × 12 cm × 4 cm is shown in Fig. 5.31.…”
