Neurolysis with Amniotic Membrane Nerve Wrapping for Treatment of Secondary Wartenberg Syndrome: A Preliminary Report

Abstract: SRN entrapment neuropathy was safely and effectively treated with neurolysis and amnion nerve wrapping in this small series. Use of this technique for perineural scar prevention warrants additional study in larger groups of patients and in other upper extremity entrapment neuropathies.

“…Several procedures and various implants have been used to minimize the risk of adhesions during peripheral nerve surgery. These include fat tissue transfer, hypothenar fat pad, collagen materials, amniotic tissue, Seprafilm and Interceed [13]- [24]. Authors have recently utilized a nerve barrier during a primary procedure with a significant improvement in outcomes and reduction in recurrence rate [25].…”

“…In vitro, in addition to preventing adhesion to surrounding tissue, it is involved in the differentiation of nerve cells. The site of injury to the surrounding tissue reduces fibrosis tissue and inflammatory cells 4,5 . It also significantly prevents the formation of scar tissue.…”

“…It also significantly prevents the formation of scar tissue. This membrane can stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen and extracellular matrix components [3][4][5][6] . There are very few studies in this field so that the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of using the amniotic membrane wrapping on the results of surgical treatment of damaged peripheral nerves.…”
