Neurofeedback Training Protocol Based on Selecting Distinctive Features to Treat or Reduce ADHD Symptoms

Abstract: Resent research has shown that electroencephalography (EEG) theta/beta ratio (TBR) in cases with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has thus far been reported lower than that in healthy individuals. Accordingly, utilizing EEG-TBR as a biomarker to diagnose ADHD has been called into question. Besides, employing known protocol to reduce EEG-TBR in the vertex (Cz) channel to treat ADHD via neurofeedback (NFB) has been doubted. The present study was to propose a new NFB treatment protocol to manage AD… Show more

“…The program had 20 hours(ten 120 min sessions). In every session, the neurofeedback training protocols focused on attention-related frequency(theta-band activity, beta-band activity, and TBR) training in the frontal F3 and F4 areas 19,49,50 using a Thought Technology Procomp infinite system. There were two monopolar EEG sensors used during training.…”

“…Third, a training program that combines neurofeedback and CATS cannot clearly distinguish neurofeedback or cognitive training tasks' efficacy. Chen et al 50 examined the effect of the CATS system on autistic spectrum disorder children and showed a training effect on the EF (cognitive flexibility and executive attention) of CATS. However, Gevensleben et al 63 compared the difference between neurofeedback and computerized attention skill training(AST) in ADHD treatment and pointed out that neurofeedback alone is better than AST training behavioral symptoms.…”

“…16,2023 Neurofeedback training helps individuals with ADHD modify their brain activity based on a computer game or auditory feedback while their EEG signals are recorded to maintain their EEG signal features within normal range. 16,24,25 Likewise, some studies have revealed the effectiveness of using EMG biofeedback alone or alongside neurofeedback in curing ADHD. 26,27…”

“…2 This method for diagnosis of ADHD is not reliable due to the fact that the results of such clinical interviews are dependent on individuals' honesty and perception of psychologists' questions, 11,12 accordingly, several studies have looked for other diagnostic methods. Groups of researchers have investigated the differences between electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of normal individuals and people with ADHD, [13][14][15][16][17][18][19] with regards to the differences associated with the EEG signals of ADHD group and healthy group, neurofeedback training has been incorporated into treating ADHD as a nonpharmaceutical therapeutic method. 16,[20][21][22][23] Neurofeedback training helps individuals with ADHD modify their brain activity based on a computer game or auditory feedback while their EEG signals are recorded to maintain their EEG signal features within normal range.…”

“…In addition, brain activity patterns in individuals skilled in a specific field are different from those in non-skilled and novice ones. 1839 If people learn to change their brain activity to assimilate them to those in skilled people, acquiring a skill or enhancing a performance will be assumed quicker. Therefore, NF is used to enhance performance in individuals.…”
