Neurobiological evaluation of thirty-one medicinal plant extracts using microtiter enzyme assays

Abstract: Background: Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) related to Alzheimer's disease as well as tyrosinase (TYR) relevant to Parkinson's disease is an important approach to find novel drug candidates for these diseases. Methods: The extracts from fourteen plant species in various polarities were subjected to high-throughput screening against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and tyrosinase (TYR), the key enzymes related to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's di… Show more

“…Anticholinesterase Activity. Cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) have recently become the most widely used drugs for the management of Alzheimer's disease (AD) [54]. ChEIs play a crucial role in the memory enhancement of AD patients through increasing ACh concentration in neural synaptic clefts and thus improving the brain cholinergic transmission and decreasing β-amyloid aggregation and neurotoxic fibrils formation [55][56][57].…”

“…Halk arasında usaresi yaygın olarak sinüzit ve sanlığa karşı gelişigüzel kullanılmaktadır [5]. Alzheimer hastalığına ilişkin asetilkolinesteraz (AChE) ve butirilkolinesteraz (BChE) ile Parkinson hastalığına ilişkin tirozinaz (TYR) inhibisyonu, bu hastalıklar için yeni ilaç adayları bulmak için önemli bir yaklaşımdır [6].…”

“…In our country, it has been determined that the roots of the plant were used as diaphoretic (Çakılcıoğlu and Türkoğlu 2010). Also, neurobiological activities were evaluated by Orhan et al 2016. The chemical components of V. hispanica are grouped as triterpenoid saponins, cyclic peptides, flavonoids, and others (Zhou et al 2015;.…”
