Network Polydispersity and Deformation‐Induced Damage in Filled Elastomers

Abstract: An a priori assumption in micromechanical analysis of polymeric networks is that the constitutive polymer strands are of equal length. Monodisperse distribution of strands, however, is merely a simplifying assumption. This paper relaxes this assumption and considers a vulcanized network with a broad distribution of strand length. In the light of this model, this study predicts the damage initiation and stress–stretch dependency in filled polymer networks with random internal structures. The degradation of netw… Show more

“…In the studies by [33] and [34] the strand length distribution is exponential or close to exponential and therefore very broad. As outlined by [70] random crosslinking gives a Flory-Schulz distributed chain length polydispersity, i.e. a geometrical distribution or in good approximation an exponential distribution [70].…”

“…As outlined by [70] random crosslinking gives a Flory-Schulz distributed chain length polydispersity, i.e. a geometrical distribution or in good approximation an exponential distribution [70]. For simplicity, we assume that the chain length is distributed e according to this geometric or Flory-Schulz distribution [72,73]:…”

“…To couple the velocity and pressure, the SIMPLE scheme is employed (Mashayekhi et al , 2017; Sarlak et al , 2017). Moreover, the convergence criterion is considered 10 −6 for the residuals of all parameters (Shamsi et al , 2017; Parsaiemehr et al , 2018; Rahmati et al , 2018; Toghraie et al , 2018; Tehrani and Sarvestani, 2017a; Tehrani et al , 2018, 2017; Tehrani and Sarvestani, 2017b).…”

“…The high initial cost of such systems, as well as the cheap supply of oil and gas [7][8][9], had hindered the development of these systems. One of the most demerits of fossil fuels is the storage problems like shell damage during corrosion or buckling, which lead to many environmental problems [10][11][12][13][14][15]. There are many renewable and new generation energy sources like solar energy, and solid-state electrocatalysis plays a crucial role in the development of renewable energy to reshape current and future energy needs [16][17].…”
