“…Several strategies to empower AYA engagement in decision‐making could be implemented as a result of this qualitative synthesis. First, system‐based approaches to incorporating social networks of AYAs may be beneficial, such as the Danish model of AYA Network Meetings, which aims to engage the social system surrounding AYAs, consider dynamics of these networks, and promote shared, coordinated, and effective care across AYA, family, and clinician triads . Second, further qualitative research with AYAs, families, and clinicians about the processes that enable AYA empowerment could provide valuable insights and validity testing of the extended model proposed in this systematic review.…”

“…Network‐focused nursing rests on a holistic approach to care where nurses recognize that illness and health cannot be isolated from the surrounding world. This approach argues that it is important to reach beyond the family and activate other relevant parts of patients’ informal and formal social network to help the family recover (Due , Olsen ). This is particularly relevant as the healthcare system, and not only fast‐track surgery, increasingly relies on patients’ self‐care.…”

“…The hospital environment can be structured to promote social interaction. For example, visitation policies that allow for family and friend visitors when feasible given medical restrictions as well as facilities that include group spaces to allow for peer‐to‐peer interactions can promote social support . Further, inclusion of adolescents in designing hospital spaces that facilitate connection and maintain a focus on social development goals is underscored …”
