“…A recent article examined the overlap between latent variable modeling and network analysis, questioning if network analysis techniques were necessary beyond latent variable modeling (Preszler & Burns, 2019). Due to the replication crisis widespread throughout psychology, we find consistent results between the two methods to be meaningful for continued support about the structure of ADHD symptoms across adulthood.…”

“…Parent-reported KSAD symptoms were used as indicators for two separate latent variables: (a) defiant/headstrong behavior and (b) angry/irritable mood with symptoms assigned based on how they are classified in DSM-5. Composite selection was guided by prior literature suggesting that ODD symptoms are best understood as two correlated but distinct dimensions of behavior (Burke et al, 2014;Stringaris & Goodman, 2009), as well as with recent network analyses suggesting network structure aligns with these latent variables (Preszler & Burns, 2019). Consistent with the literature, this model fit the data well (RMSEA = .043, CFI = .993, TLI = .995).…”

“…The ndings showed that the symptoms of angry, annoy, and argue were central in the network, with angry being most central. Preszler and Burns (2019) examined the network structure of DSM-5 ODD symptoms together with Attention De cit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, APA, 2013) symptoms in a group of primary school-aged children from the general community, based on mother and father ratings, using a partial correlation procedure for the network.…”

“…Although there have been three studies that have examined networks that included the OSS symptoms (Hukkelberg & Ogden, 2018, Preszler & Burns, 2019, Smith et al, 2017, only the Smith et al study focused exclusively on DSM-5 ODD symptoms, based on parent ratings. Preszler and Burns (2019) examined the network structure of DSM-5 ODD symptoms together with ADHD symptoms, and Hukkelberg and Ogden (2018) examined the network structure of ten relevant ODD symptoms and not the eight DSM-5 ODD symptoms.…”
