Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings: An Overview and Analysis on Worldwide Building Projects

Abstract: This paper summarises the state of two research phases within the scope of the IEA Task 40 / Annex 52 "Towards Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings" [1]. The first objective is a cross section analysis of a comprehensive collection of more than 280 international zero energy buildings. The aim is to show trends, motives of actors, as well as their method to reach the zero energy balance. Secondly, an indepth study shows a rough analysis and characteristics of 50 exemplary Nets ZEBs from different countries and clima… Show more

“…It is obvious that other combinations of renewable energy technologies apart from those mentioned previously could achieve the same result in the residential building. Mussal et al, 2010 have presented another combination of renewable energy technologies which also result to a net-zero energy solar building. The proposed technologies include a full solar passive house with solar thermal collectors, a heat pump, efficient electric appliances and a solar-PV system.…”

“…More than 300 buildings, most of them located in Europe, were already identified in 2010 [37]. Such buildings are also defined as zero emission buildings, but refer to net zero carbon dioxide emissions related to the operation of net zero energy buildings [11] only, and do not address other emissions.…”
