Neotropical ennomine moths: a review of the genera (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)

Abstract: The classification of the Neotropical genera of the Ennominae is reviewed and 267 genera are recognised to occur in this region. Three new genera are described and three others are reinstated, while 48 generic synonyms are newly established. Other changes established in this work include 14 species synonyms and 237 new or reinstated combinations. External features and genitalia of representative members of the genera are illustrated (753 figures). All the known Neotropical species and subspecies of Ennominae a… Show more

“…Iridopsis Warren, 1894 is a New World genus of Boarmiini, whose greatest diversity is concentrated in the Neotropical Region (Rindge 1966;Pitkin 2002). However, the biology of the Neotropical species is little known, with only a few host plant records published (Passoa 1983;Vargas 2007;Marconato et al 2008;Bodner et al 2010;Robinson et al 2010).…”

“…The small size of G. mielkei is rare among Neotropical Glena, although some Nearctic species are also small (Rindge 1965). As for many Boarmiini geometrid moths (Pitkin 2002), wing maculation is not a reliable feature for identification among Neotropical species of Glena (Rindge 1967). Thus, genital features should always be used for accurate identification.…”

Neotropical species of Glena are present in many countries of South America, including those bounding with Chile: Peru, Bolivia and Argentina (Rindge 1967).…”
