“…The use of neonatal PAs is not new but training in these early programs was not formalized 8,9. In 2005, a postgraduate training program was established at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, to provide comprehensive training, which includes approximately 3000 hours of didactic teaching, bedside teaching, simulation exercises, and patient care 10,11. As part of the Kentucky Neonatal PA Residency Program, the Neonatal PA residents “are assigned for 2 months to an APP Team”10 (p748) work for a portion of their time with the neonatal APPs and given procedural priority but mentorship is not, specifically, described.…”
