Lateral escape tectonics mediated by strike-slip fault zones are an efficient mechanism of rock deformation in the continental crust of collision zones. The Borborema shear zone system, which shows dimensions comparable to the Cenozoic extrusion of Indochina, defines a lateral escape setting of the Brasilano orogeny in Northeastern Brazil. In this paper, the timing of high-grade metamorphism and compositions of the terranes involved in the shear deformation were investigated. The Patos shear corridor deforms the Siderian to Neoarchean rocks of the Granjeiro Complex that, in turn, form the basement of Seridó-Lavras da Mangabeira metapelites. U-Pb zircon ages and Sm-Nd whole-rock isotopic compositions indicate that the 2.80 -2.35 Ga basement sequences mainly include juvenile material, whereas zircons from synkinematic migmatites indicate that the partial melting occurred in the Late Ediacaran (ca. 565 Ma). Cooling rates provided by 40 Ar/ 39 Ar range from 12 to 17°C/Ma, indicating a differential shear zone exhumation, in agreement with a transpressive setting. The presence of allochthonous Siderian sequences dismembered along the shear zone suggests that the Seridó-Granjeiro corridor defines a major tectonic boundary connected to the collisional front defined by the convergence of São Francisco-Congo and Amazonian cratons.

Peraluminous granitoids were recently mapped in the Rio Piranhas-Seridó Domain, the northeast portion of the Borborema Province. These bodies occur as stock and intrusive dikes in the metapelites of the Seridó Formation, constituting the Jardim do Seridó Suite. This suite has two facies. The first and most expressive facies consists of a medium-grained and whitish leucocratic monzogranite with muscovite, garnet, and biotite, while the second is represented by fine-grained and greyish leucocratic granodiorites with biotite, cropping out mainly on the edges of the main body. The thermobarometric conditions for the crystallization of the monzogranites were estimated between 2-5 kbar and 690-950 ºC, whereas the lithochemical data indicate a syn-collisional peraluminous signature. Neoproterozoic garnet-biotite schist xenoliths of the Seridó Formation are sometimes observed partially assimilated in the main body (stock). A U-Pb zircon age of 592 ± 2 Ma obtained in the main body is considered as the crystallization age of the Jardim do Seridó Suite, corroborating the proposed existence of peraluminous magmas associated with the Brasiliano Orogenesis in the Rio Piranhas-Seridó Domain. The chemical and petrographic data identified this suite as fertile to that it can generate dikes of rare elements-bearing pegmatites.

O Stock Serra da Acauã está inserido no contexto da atividade plutônica ediacarana, uma das mais importantes feições geológicas na Província Borborema, Nordeste do Brasil. O corpo está dividido em duas fácies: uma equigranular fina a média e outra inequigranular média a fracamente porfirítica com fenocristais de K-feldspato. Determinações U-Pb em zircão apontaram uma idade ediacarana de c.a 578 Ma para a sua cristalização. Petrograficamente, o stock consiste de um biotita monzogranitos hololeucocráticos a leucocráticos (M = 1,3 – 9,9%), com biotita sendo o máfico principal (0,5 a 8,1%). Minerais opacos, titanita, allanita, apatita e zircão são acessórios e as fases minerais mais precoces. As rochas que formam o stock são geoquimicamente similares, de caráter fracamente peraluminoso (1,00 ≤ A/CNK ≤ 1,04), com coríndon normativo e de assinatura transicional entre rochas alcalinas e calcioalcalinas. A variação do conteúdo de óxidos e elementos traço sugere o fracionamento de plagioclásio, biotita, titanita, apatita e magnetita durante a cristalização do magma. O diagrama para elementos terras raras mostra enriquecimento dos elementos terras raras leves em relação aos elementos terras raras pesados, com razões LaN/YbN entre 16,10 e 54,75, e anomalias negativas de Eu (Eu/Eu* de 0,66 a 0,90) compatíveis com fracionamento de plagioclásio. Dados referentes à temperatura de saturação de zircão somados a diagramas discriminantes geoquímicos permitem associar essas rochas a granitos tipo I altamente fracionados. O conjunto de dados permite correlacionar o magmatismo no contexto de granitoides calcioalcalinos de alto potássio, tardi a pós-tectônicos do Domínio Rio Piranhas-Seridó.
