Neglected traumatic hip dislocation: Influence of the increased intracapsular pressure

Abstract: AIMTo investigate that the increased intracapsular pressure, during the delay period, can interrupt the blood flow to the femoral head.METHODSAn observational retrospective study included a group of 17 patients with traumatic hip dislocation, their ages at time of injury averaged 26 (range from 3 to 70) years. Outcomes were assessed clinically and radiographically at a period averaged 11.5 (range from 4 to 20) years.RESULTSMinor trauma caused dislocation in seven and severe trauma in ten patients. All dislocat… Show more

“…In our cohort, we collected 60% late complications. Despite a prompt closed reduction (within 6 hours), 6% of our patients suffered from AVNFH, in line with the incidence reported in the literature (3-11%) [1,17,34]. In our analysis, AVNFH development was signi cantly related to the presence of PHD (P=0.004).…”

“…The incidence of traumatic hip dislocations in pediatric patients is estimated to be 0.8 cases per one million children 5 . Despite the rarity of pediatric traumatic hip dislocations, associated injuries (AIs) and long-term adverse events (LTAEs), collectively termed associated pathologies (APs) in this manuscript, frequently concomitant with traumatic hip dislocations in children and adolescents can be devastating and have long-lasting consequences 6,7 . Contrary to adult traumatic hip dislocations, traumatic hip dislocations in children can occur due to relatively minor trauma 2,3,8 .…”
