Needleless electro-spun nanofibers used for filtration of small particles

Abstract: A composite aerosol filter media was prepared by depositing nanofibers on the non-woven fabrics substrate using needleless electrospinning technique. The polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers with mean diameters of ca. 100 nm were used as top layers. The filtration performance was evaluated by measuring the filtration of sodium chloride nanoparticles (75±20 nm) through the filters. It was found that the filtration efficiency of the composite filter media for nanoparticles was increased along with the thickness of nanof… Show more

“…As the nanofibers prepared by electro spinning have various advantages, including smaller diameter, larger specific surface area, and unique network, they have been widely used in biomedicine (bone braces, drug controlled release and tissue template) (1-5), separation and filtration of materials (6)(7)(8), adsorption of materials (9), photocatalyst (10), biocells (11,12) and other areas. In addition, more studies focus on the preparation of the phase change nanofibers via electro spinning in recent years.…”

“…Because of their unique properties of the electrospun nanobers such as high surface area, high aspect ratio, good mechanical properties and the ability to incorporate multifunctional nanoparticles in the bers, the resulting product can be an excellent lter medium for air and water contaminants purication. [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] The main difficulties focus on the high throughput, functionalization and ber diameter reduction, while maintaining nanobers stability. Chitosan is recognized as the second most globally abundant natural polysaccharide aer cellulose.…”

“…Recently, needleless electrospinning technique appeared with the aim of producing nanofibers on a large scale [56,57]. Li et al [58] prepared PVA nanofibers with an average fiber diameter of 100 nm using needleless electrospinning technique. The filtration performance of PVA/PP composite filter was evaluated by measuring the filtration of NaCl particles (75˙20 nm) through the filters.…”
