“…This systematic review demonstrates that different types of orthosis could be helpful for TMO (39,46,55,68,69). The orthosis including the metacarpophalangeal joint, that is, CTT orthosis, appears to be slightly superior for alleviating pain (69). However, the type of orthosis should be chosen according to each patient's needs (e.g., activities, preference) (80,81).…”

“…CTT versus custom-made thermoplastic hand-based TM joint (CT-TM). CTT orthosis had a small pain-reducing effect on pain at 1 week compared to CT-TM orthosis; however, there was little effect difference between the 2 modalities on physical function improvement (see Supplementary Table 1, Section 19, at http:// onlin elibr ary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/acr.24084/ abstract) (69).…”

“…Although the pathogenesis of carpometacarpal (CMC) osteoarthritis is not understood completely, altered motor patterns exhibited during the completion of activities of daily living (ADL) can increase symptoms such as thumb pain and decreased pinch strength and thumb mobility [ 1 , 2 ]. Altered motor control patterns that impact one’s activity and participation have been reported in other painful musculoskeletal conditions, including neck pain [ 3 ] and knee osteoarthritis [ 4 ].…”

“…Thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis (CMC OA) is a common disorder that interferes with the ability to perform activities of daily living [ 1 ]. It is the most often reported painful joint compared to all other hand joints [ 2 ], and it is present in 40% of women and up to 25% of men older than 75 years of age. Its diagnosis is based on symptoms such as the location of pain, tenderness and instability, as well as radiographic evaluation [ 3 ].…”
