NEAT expression is associated with tumor recurrence and unfavorable prognosis in colorectal cancer

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have recently been identified to be involved in various diseases including cancer. NEAT1 is a recently identified lncRNA with its function largely unknown in human malignancy. In the present study, we investigated NEAT1 expression in 239 cases of clinical colorectal cancer specimens and matched normal tissues. Statistical methods were utilized to analyze the association of NEAT1 with clinical features, disease-free and overall survival of patients. Results showed that NEAT1 expres… Show more

“…NEAT1 can also be induced by poly I:C triggered by the toll-like receptor3-p38 pathway after infection with virus (13). Previous studies have shown that NEAT1 is an oncogene in various cancers, such as urinary bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (14)(15)(16)(17). In addition to lncRNA, many tumor pathways have been shown to play an important role in glioma progression and invasion.…”

“…Non-coding RNAs exhibit a plethora of functions, ranging from chromatin and enhancer modifiers to scaffolding and transcript sponge functions (Morris and Mattick, 2014). Some lncRNAs such as MALAT1 and NEAT1 have also been found to function in cancer cell signalling (Clemson et al, 2009; Guffanti et al, 2009; Gutschner et al, 2013; Kogure et al, 2013; Gezer et al, 2014; Chen et al, 2015; Guo et al, 2015; Y. Li et al, 2015; Pan et al, 2015), with MALAT1 being previously observed to be packaged into exosomes (Gezer et al, 2014).…”

“…Yunlong et al reported that NEAT1 was highly expressed in CRC compared with paracancerous tissues. Moreover, patients with high NEAT1 expression had a poor differentiation and a shorter tumour-free survivaltime [33]. Expression of lncRNA-HOTAIR in lymph node metastatic foci of CRC was reported to be higher than that in primary tumours, indicating a poor prognosis [34].…”
