Near-infrared wavelength-dependent nonlinear transmittance tailoring in glass ceramics containing Er3+:LaF3nanocrystals

Abstract: Nonlinear optical (NLO) effects rooting from rare-earth ions doped materials possess colossal potential application in all-optical switches. However, among previous researches, Er 3+ ions doped glass ceramics (GCs) with remarkable NLO features has been overlooked for optical modulation application by tailoring its nonlinear transmittance upon excitation of various near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, which might give effortless way of achieving "on-off" optical modulation in future all-optical switches. Here, we … Show more

“…These results match well with that of precursor glasses and GCs under the same heat‐treatment temperature (Figure A,C). The mean grain size of NaYF 4 crystals can be calculated through the Debye‐Scherrer equation:D=Kλβcosθwhere D is the grain size, λ is the X‐ray wavelength, K is a dimensionless shape factor, θ is Bragg angle, and β is the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the diffraction peak. The mean grain sizes calculated are about 14, 16, 21, and 28 nm for the samples annealed at 470, 480, 490, and 500°C.…”
