The valuable luminescence, magnetic, and catalytic properties of lanthanide cations are beginning to be exploited in conjunction with structurally exotic mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) such as rotaxanes, catenanes and knots. This Minireview provides an account of this rapidly developing research area commencing with the use of lanthanides in extended MIM-containing frameworks. Then, attention turns to discrete lanthanide-containing pseudorotaxanes, followed by fully interlocked rotaxanes, catenanes and knots -where lanthanides have not only been incorporated into MIM architectures but have also been used to template formation of the interlocked structure. Particular focus is paid to examples where the lanthanide MIMs have been put to useful applications, in what is still a relatively youthful avenue of research in both lanthanide coordination chemistry and the chemistry of mechanically interlocked molecules.[a] Dr.

Photonen-Aufkonvertierung in hetero-oligonuklearen, Metallkomplex-Architekturen mit organischen Liganden ist ein interessantes,aber bisher selten beobachtetes Phänomen, trotz des großen Potentials sowohl aus Sicht der Grundlagenforschung als auch aus der Anwendungsperspektive.N un wurde ein neues photonisches Material aus molekularen Chrom(III)-und Ytterbium(III)-Komplexionen entwickelt. Dieses zeigt im Festkçrper bei Raumtemperatur abhängig von der Anregungsleistungsdichte nachA nregung des 2 F 7/2 ! 2 F 5/2-Überganges des Ytterbiums bei ca. 980 nm eine kooperative Sensibilisierung der Chrom(III)-zentrierten 2 E/ 2 T 1-Phosphoreszenzb ei ca. 775 nm. Der Aufkonvertierungsprozess ist unempfindlichg egenüber Luftsauerstoff und kann in Gegenwart von Wassermolekülen im Kristallgitter beobachtet werden.

Lanthanides have unique electronic configurations and stepped energy states of [Xe]4fN, which endows them with advantages including stable luminescence, large stokes shift, wide excitation spectral bands, and long fluorescence lifetime. NIR‐II fluorescence imaging overcomes the strong tissue absorption, scattering, and spontaneous fluorescence interference of traditional fluorescence and can achieve deeper tissue penetration and higher spatial and temporal resolution in vivo imaging. Lanthanides hold great potential for in vivo biosensing and bioimaging. In this work, the design and preparation of nanomaterials doped with different lanthanide elements are reviewed in this paper. Applications of lanthanide‐doped nanomaterials to different tumor therapeutics through NIR‐II fluorescence imaging and the unique potential of NIR lanthanide nanomaterials in tumor diagnosis and therapy are also discussed.
