Near-infrared metal agents assisting precision medicine: from strategic design to bioimaging and therapeutic applications

Abstract: Metal agents have made incredible strides in preclinical research and clinical applications, but their short emission/absorption wavelengths continue to be a barrier to their distribution, therapeutic action, visual tracking, and efficacy evaluation.

“…[213] More importantly, some photosensitizers also possess imaging functions under NIR irradiation to achieve precise treatment. [214] For example, Duan et al developed a porphyritic MOF-525, which provides the basis for near-infrared light induced fluorescence imaging to guide cancer treatment through the two-photon activity of the nanoplatform. [215] Photothermal therapy causes thermal ablation and killing of local tumors by using photosensitizers to generate heat under laser irradiation.…”

“…3 Moreover, the occurrence and development of tumors is complex, and currently no single treatment method entirely meets clinical needs. 2,4,5 Therefore, combined anticancer strategies exploring different therapeutic methods have shown overwhelming advantages over single therapeutic methods. 6,7 To date, various combinations of therapeutic strategies have emerged, such as SDT-PTT, 8,9 SDT-PDT, 10,11 PDT-PTT, 12,13 sonodynamic-chemodynamic therapy (SDT-CDT), 14,15 PDT-chemotherapy, 16,17 and SDT-chemotherapy.…”

“…1 Containing most of the genetic material, the nucleus is sensitive to stimuli, and provides a good acting site for medicines to inhibit cells. For higher therapeutic efficacy, 2–8 researchers have developed lots of nucleus-targeting anti-tumor agents. 9–13 Nucleus-targeting chemotherapeutic agents, such as doxorubicin, 14,15 carboplatin 16 and cisplatin, 17 interact with the DNA helix or its related enzymes to induce the death of cancer cells.…”
