“…Therefore, the role of this postprocessor is to compute the articular configurations (Xm,Ym,Zm,A,C) for each Cl point (Xpr,Ypr,Zpr,i,j,k) programmed in the part frame ( Figure 3). Given the machine-tool architecture (Figure 13), the IKT leads to equations (1) and (2). Details on the geometrical modelling of the machine-tool and the IKT formulation are exposed in appendix.…”

“…Indeed, switching from domain 1 (A 1 >0) to domain 2 (A 2 <0) makes the table C rotates about 180°. This rapid movement can cause rear gouging, especially when using toroïdal tool [2] [3]. Moreover, during this movement, the displacement of the cutter contact on the surface is small; the relative velocity tool-surface is almost zero.…”

“…Efforts have been made to classify fiveaxis machine tools with three translational and two rotational joints, which are reciprocally orthogonal, into three basic types-rotary table (RT), spindle rotating (SR), and hybrid (HT)-according to the position of the two rotational joints, respectively [9][10][11]. Jung et al [12] built a postprocessor that is suitable for the RT-type five-axis machine tool. Lee et al [13] developed analytical equations capable of converting cutter location (CL) data and tool orientation vectors into machine control coordinates for the three representative types mentioned above.…”

“…While the three-axis NC machine has more advantages in large workspace and good dexterity, however, it is only suitable for simple surface or small parts processing [3,4]. The five-axis series CNC machine, adding two-degreeof-freedom rotating head attached to its mobile platform or two-degree-of-freedom rotary tables on the three-axis machine, can maintain the favourable orientation, but often scarified certain workspace, and may cause poor precision and stiffness by increasing the length of the actuator to enlarge the workspace [5,6]. So there is a contradiction between workspace and precision and stiffness for free surface machining by using the traditional series or parallel machine tool, and they cannot be able to satisfy requirements of the high speed milling for large heterogeneous complex surface in aerospace.…”
