Nature of the T Lymphocytes in Lymphocyte Predominance Hodgkin's Disease

Abstract: Little is known about the function of the T lymphocytes in lymphocyte predominance Hodgkin's disease. We report here the case of a 37-year-old man with a diffuse LPHD, featuring a similar increase in T lymphocytes in both the peripheral blood and the tumor, thus allowing for their characterization by functional assays. These cells were CD4+CD45RO+ and produced high amounts of IL-2 and IFN-gamma, consistent with a TH1-type profile. This subset of T helper cells is involved in cellular immunity and could reflect… Show more

“…Another remarkable finding was detection of high levels of IFN γ transcripts in the three different NLPHL T cell subsets compared to the tonsillar T cell subsets. Dargent et al 10 previously analysed the cytokine profile of CD4 + T cells from one case of diffuse NLPHL and reported secretion of IL2 and IFNγ together with lack of secretion of IL4 and IL5 by ELISA. Although the CD4 + T cells in their study were composed of a heterogeneous group of T cells, these results are generally consistent with our findings in NLPHL.…”

“…CD4 + /CD57 + T cells of NLPHL are not only present in rosettes around the L&H cells but are also distributed throughout the nodules of NLPHL. Little is known about the cytokine profile of the T cells in NLPHL 9, 10.…”
