“…This yielded an estimated proportion of 29.6% of RLS subjects with an ESS score Ͼ10% and 22.8% with an ESS score Ͼ11. These figures are in line with results from a further three studies [31][32][33] and two of the above studies 20,30 that directly reported the percentage of RLS patients with an elevated score (Fig. 2, upper panel).…”

“…Twenty studies reported mean ESS values that are graphically depicted in Figure 1. Ten studies assessed the ESS in a sleep laboratory [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]20 or clinical population 19 with the group-average ESS scores varying from 5.9 12 to 11.9, 15 and a weighted mean ESS score of 8.2 (Ϯ 4.9 standard deviation (SD)). In eight studies [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] that assessed the ESS at baseline in a treatment trial, the average scores varied from 5.4 21 to 9.2 25 with a weighted average of 7.6 (Ϯ 4.5 SD).…”

“…This is significantly greater than the prevalence reported in the French general population [25]. In clinical cohorts, 30% of restless legs syndrome patients complain of EDS as assessed by an ESS score of .10 [26]. In the general population, subjects with restless legs syndrome symptoms had statistically more frequent EDS.…”

“…This is consistent with previous studies. (27). In addition, Moreira et al (2008) found that RLS is significantly associated with sleep quality, sleep disturbances, and excessive daytime sleepiness (P = 0.02) (16).…”
