Natural variation of rice blast resistance gene Pi-d2

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Studying natural variation in rice resistance genes of cultivated and wild rice relatives can predict resistance stability to rice blast fungus. In the present study, the protein coding regions of the rice R nucleotide differences were found in the open reading frames (ORFs) of Pi-d2. Translation of these ORFs revealed 9 variants; 3 were novel Pi-d2 variants. Variants H2 and H5 were identified in accessions of cultivated rice and O. nivara, H1, H3, H4, H6, and H8 were only identified in cultivated ri… Show more

“…In Haynaldia villosa , transgenic plants overexpressing L-type LecRLK ( LecRK - V ) were more affected by wheat powdery mildew [ 38 ]. Similarly, rice Pi-d2 (G-type LecRLK) has been found to induce the plant’s defense response against fungal pathogens [ 39 ], which is in agreement with our findings. These results broaden our understanding of the critical role of cucumber LecRLKs in plant-fungal interaction.…”

“…Second, chitin treatment and Bgt treatment could both induce the transcriptional activation of LecRK-V. Furthermore, a G-type LecRLK from rice, Pi-d2, has been reported to contribute to plant defense against the fungal pathogen Magnaporthe grisea (Chen et al, 2006;Li et al, 2015). A single amino acid substitution at position 441 from Isoleucine (I) to Methionine (M) within its transmembrane domain could differentiate the resistant Pi-d2 allele from the susceptible ones.…”

“…The non-synonymous mutations that occur in the CDS will lead to creating diversity at the protein level (Lu et al, 2012). Based on these non-synonymous mutations it is possible to identify functional protein-types owing to the fact that mutations at functional domains could lead to a conformational change of the protein resulting altered functionality (Lu et al, 2012;Wei et al, 2014;Li et al, 2015). In the current study, based on 14 such sites with nonsynonymous mutations (10 SNPs and 4 InDel sites) within the CDS, nine protein-types XA21-1 to XA21-9) were identified ( Figure 2).…”
