Natural Variation in OsLG3 Increases Drought Tolerance in Rice by Inducing ROS Scavenging

Abstract: Improving the performance of rice () under drought stress has the potential to significantly affect rice productivity. Here, we report that the ERF family transcription factor OsLG3 positively regulates drought tolerance in rice. In our previous work, we found that has a positive effect on rice grain length without affecting grain quality. In this study, we found that was more strongly expressed in upland rice than in lowland rice under drought stress conditions. By performing candidate gene association analys… Show more

“…To measure OsNAC006 expression levels following various abiotic stress and phytohormone treatments, 4-week-old WT seedlings grown in a light incubator at 28 • C in Hoagland solution under 16 h 3000 lux/8 h dark conditions were treated with cold (4 • C), heat (42 • C), PEG 6000 (20%, w/v), NaCl (200 mm), H 2 O 2 (1%), IAA (100 µm), ABA (100 µm) and GA 3 (100 µm) [45]. Leaf tissue was harvested after stress treatment and subjected to RT-qPCR analysis.…”

“…Genomic DNA fragments of GLA from different accessions were amplified using the V1, V2, V3 and V4 primers (Data S1 and S2), sequenced and analysed by DNASTAR software. Variable sites, including 33 SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and 13 InDels (insertion/deletion polymorphisms), were used for GLA-based association analysis Wang et al, 2016;Xiong et al, 2018). Significant sites based on the -log 10 (P) values were used for haplotype analyses (Data S2).…”

“…SNPs) or genetic markers within, or tightly linked to genes contributing to complex traits (Huang et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2017;Wang and Qin, 2017;Xiao et al, 2017). This approach has previously been successfully applied to detect allelic diversity of genes controlling crop drought tolerance, especially in rice and maize (Liu et al, 2013;Mao et al, 2015;Singh et al, 2015;Songyikhangsuthor et al, 2014;Wang et al, 2016;Xiang et al, 2017;Xiong et al, 2018).…”
