Az ókori egyiptomi gyógyászatról alkotott ismereteink jelentős része az egyiptomi történelem különböző szakaszaiból fennmaradt papiruszokból származik. A leghosszabb és legátfogóbb a lipcsei Egyetemi Múzeumban őrzött Ebers-papirusz, amelyet több mint ezer évvel Hippokratész (c. Kr. e. 460-377) előtt jegyeztek le. Az Ebers-papirusz 20-as számon jelzett rejtélyes receptjében a "wrmyt" weremit hasból történő kiűzésére egy "jnnk", kopt források alapján valószínűsíthetően Conyza dioscoridis gyógynövény tejjel vagy édes sörrel készült italát ajánlják. A szerzők feltételezése szerint a weremit Schistosoma mansoni és/vagy Schistosoma haematobium cercariafertőzést jelenthet. A Conyza dioscoridis teáját a mai egyiptomi népi gyógyászatban is gyakorta alkalmazzák reuma, puffadás és görcsök ellen, illetve izzadásgátlóként, valamint külsőleg a sebgyógyulás elősegítésére. A szerzők az írásos emlékek alapján a szer hatásosságát értelmezik a modern orvosi és gyógyszerészi ismeretek segítségével. Orv. Hetil., 2015, 156(50), 2045-2051. The longest and the most comprehensive is the Ebers papyrus, kept in the University Museum of Leipzig, which was written more than-one thousand years before Hippocrates (c. 460-377 BC). One of the riddles among the prescriptions of the Ebers papyrus Eb20 has been used in order to remove the so called "wemyt" weremit from the abdomen with the help of a drink, which consists of "jnnk", Conyza dioscoridis in milk or sweet beer. The authors assume that the disease could be an infection of Schistosoma haematobium and/or Schistosoma mansoni. Nowadays the tea of Conyza dioscoridis is widely used as an important part of the traditional medicine against rheumatism, intestinal distention and cramps as well as an antiperspirant, and for external application to heal the wounds. The authors' intent is to interpret the effi cacy of the above-mentioned ancient prescription with the help of modern medical and pharmaceutical knowledge. The aimed of the presence study was to determine the antiulcer potential of virgin coconut oil (VCO), either extracted by wet process (VCO A ) or fermentation process (VCO B ), and to compare their effectiveness against the copra oil (CO) using the HCl/ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model. Earlier, the oils underwent chemical analysis to determine the free fatty acids composition, physicochemical properties and anti-oxidant capability. In the antiulcer study, rats (n = 6) were pre-treated orally for 7 consecutive days with distilled water (vehicle), 100 mg/kg ranitidine (positive group) or the respective oils (10, 50, and 100% concentration). One hour after the last test solutions administration on Day 7 th , the animals were subjected to the gastric ulcer assay. Macroscopic and microscopic analyses were performed on the collected rat's stomachs. From the results obtained, the chemical analysis revealed i) the presence of high content of lauric acid followed by myristic acid and palmitic acid in all oils and; ii) the significant ( * p < 0.05) different in anisidine-and peroxide-value, percentage of free fatty acid, total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity among the oils. The animal study demonstrated that all oil possess significant ( * p < 0.05) antiulcer activity with VCO B being the most effective oil followed by VCO A and CO. The macroscopic observations were supported by the microscopic findings. Interestingly, all oils were more effective than 100 mg/kg ranitidine (reference drug). In conclusion, coconut oils exert remarkable antiulcer activity depending on their methods of extraction, possibly via the modulation of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
