Natural Inhibitors of Lipase: Examining Lipolysis in a Single Droplet

Abstract: Inhibition of lipase activity is one of the approaches to reduced fat intake with nutritional prevention promoting healthier diet. The food industry is very interested in the use of natural extracts, hence reducing the side effects of commercial drugs inhibiting lipolysis. In this work we propose a novel methodology to rapidly assess lipolysis/inhibition in a single droplet by interfacial tension and dilatational elasticity. The evolution of the interfacial tension of lipase in simplified duodenal fluid in the… Show more

“…In addition to this, Palestinian territory is covered with a huge number of plants and from this huge biodiversity, there are large numbers of them considered traditional medicines or foodssinceancient times [ 25 ]. From these plants, A. palaestinum , C. azarolus , M. parviflora , T. syriacum , R. coriaria , R. officinalis , P. guajava , O. dayi , B. nigra , and V. vinifera were investigated for their efficacy as natural anti-obesity products and compared with Orlistat, which considered the anti-lipase drug of choice [ 26 ].…”

“…It can induce weight loss through several mechanisms such as (1) suppressing appetite and inducing satiety. [678] (2) enhancing lipid metabolism,[910] (3) enhancing thermogenesis,[1112] (4) inhibiting pancreatic lipase,[13141516] (5) inhibiting α-amylase activity,[171819] and (6) preventing adipocyte differentiation. [2021] In this review, we addressed the most recent studies about the antiobesity property of capsaicin and its possible mechanisms of action is also discussed.…”

“…There are many in vitro studies evaluating the hydrolysis of lipids by lipases, such as by studying changes in the interfacial tension of individual droplets to assess the hydrolysis of lipids and constructing lipase membrane reactors to perform enzymatic catalysis at the macroscopic oil-water interface. 19,20 In addition, studies on free lipase using pH-Stat, 21 lipase hydrolysis in reverse micelles, 22 and the hydrolysis of lipids by immobilized lipase 23 have also been performed.…”
