Natural Convection and Irreversibility Evaluation in a Cubic Cavity with Partial Opening in Both Top and Bottom Sides

Abstract: A numerical study on natural convection in a cubical cavity with partial top and bottom openings is performed in this paper. One of the vertical walls of the cavity has higher temperature than that of the opposite one; the remaining walls are insulated perfectly. Three-dimensional simulations of governing equations have been performed using a finite volume technique. The results are presented for different parameters such as opening length and Rayleigh number. It is observed that heat transfer rate and fluid f… Show more

“…It is an essential aspect of the 2nd law of thermodynamics [ 21 , 22 ]. The study of entropy generation in closed domain has been analyzed in several studies [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Ahmed et al [ 26 ] analyzed the entropy production due to doubly diffusive convection of Casson liquids in the occurrence of slip boundaries and chemical reactions.…”

“…Several works dealing with quantification of heat transfer by free convection have been carried out in both variable regime and steady state. Different fluids and flow regimes have been examined for cavities or spaces of various shapes [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The hemispherical geometry has been treated recently with experimental and numerical approaches, applied to some engineering fields, such as buildings and renewable energy.…”
