Silane epoxy resins are the name of new thermosetting polymeric insulation materials that have been developed, with the materials composition was obtained from the experimental research. Mathematical analysis to study the aging performance of the polymeric insulation materials for high voltage insulator in the tropical climate is the multiple regression model, it is derived from statistical science combined with statistics toolbox from matlab programme. For engineering proposed, it could be applied for silane epoxy resins, for some purpose, namely, 1) to prove aging mathematical model with the data from the natural and acceleration aging, 2) to determine optimal performance the sample in tropical climate, and the result is the sample coded RTV24, 3) to predict the service lifetime of samples, depend on critical electrical field (Vfo/L) and design criteria of insulator, 4) to determine the correlation between natural and acceleration aging test, in the form of acceleration factor, with turned out for ultraviolet radiation, temperature, and humidity are 77, 2, and 2 respectively. Using the results, natural aging test which takes long time and high cost is not necessary to be performed, since accelerated aging performance could predict the performance of natural aging test. The results of multiple regression model, it can be concluded that the silane treatment of the filler with the dose of 40 00, or specimen code of RTV24 gives optimal performance in the tropical climate. Therefore, these materials can be proposed as insulator materials for high voltage transmission line in tropical area, and as an alternative substitution for porcelain and glasses.

Key Words: Zinc oxide, surge arresters, arrester selection ver since the first lines were strung, electrical storms and other natural phenomenon have caused voltage surges to occur in the connected system. Surges due to lightning and line switching cause instantaneous and incipient failures. As the systems have grown more complex, available fault current levels have risen, requiring sophisticated surge protection schemes.Spark gaps were the earliest form of overvoltage protection. Due to problems with power frequency follow-through current, current-limiting spark gaps with a series impedance were ultimately developed. The silicon carbide (Sic) arresters with magnetically blown spark gaps were the epitome of this form of overvoltage protection. [1,84]. Surge capacitors and inductors were also utilized in certain applications to limit the overvoltages produced in the system.Insulation coordination standards and guides for the application of surge protective devices developed, which provided a basis for the selection of surge protective devices. [21,27,[93][94][95]. These standards required a minimum protective margin for front-of-wave, standard impulse and switching surge levels, which, based on experience, should provide adequate protection for the life of the equipment, typically 30 or 40 years.As the transmission voltage levels increased, the equipment insulation levels decreased. For equipment such as transformers, the ratio of the basic impulse insulation level, BIL, to system voltage decreases with increasing system voltage [92]. While there are many explanations for this decreasing ratio, the need to reduce equipment size and costs along with the awarding of contracts on the basis of lowest cost have been very important. Ultimately, the need for better protective margins drove the surge arrester manufacturers to develop improved forms of surge protection. In 1968, Dr. M. Matsuoka and his colleagues at Matsushita Electric Co. discovered zinc oxide (ZnO) varistors [83].This paper deals first briefly with the Sic versus ZnO arrester arguments that have led to the wide acceptance of ZnO as the arrester of choice in most applications. ZnO fundamentals and performance issues are discussed. Silicon Carbide limitationsSic arresters have several fundamental limitations: the Sic valve elements, the gaps, and the power follow-through current. Polymeric composite insulators consisting of core fiber reinforced polymer insulators covered with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) housing are now replacing conventional ceramic insulators especially for high-outdoor power transmission lines due to some specific advantages. Unlike ceramics, polymers have relatively shorter life. Outdoor insulators experience different electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal stresses during service. The long-term service performance of these insulators and their service life estimation is an important issue, but it is complicated and time-consuming. The objective of the present investigation is to check the rate of property deterioration during service and to find the approximate lifetime. Working insulators with different ages were collected from service, and the changes in mechanical and electrical properties and hydrophobicity of the PDMS cover against aging time were measured. The service life estimated from the change in mechanical properties and surface hydrophobicity (using MATLAB software) was compared with the service life of a new compound subjected to accelerated aging tests. Prediction of service life is helpful for replacement of aged insulators from service to avoid interruption in power transmission.
