“…As such, it has been identified as a terrestrial IBA, code MX098 (BirdLife International, 2010), with an approximately 2 km buffer surrounding the island (Vidal, Berlanga & del Coro Arizmendi, 2009; BirdLife International, 2020). The island is 8.65 km 2 , arid, with little vegetation and is inhabited by approximately 80 families who are part of a fishing cooperative that manage voluntary no‐take zones to ensure the sustainability of the marine resources (Bajo & Roelants, 2011). Owing to the presence of the globally important colony of black‐vented shearwaters and other seabird colonies, Natividad Island and its small buffer zone are included in the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve (DOF, 2000) and the Pacific Islands Biosphere Reserve (DOF, 2016).…”
