National identity during periods of controversy: celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Phoenix, Arizona

Abstract: Cinco de Mayo, celebrated by Mexican Americans as well as Americans of other ethnicities, provides an opportunity to examine the influence of ethnic festivals on broader US identity.
